We were beside ourselves when we heard back in January that Azealia Banks and Nicola Formichetti were working together on the rapper’s music video for “Liquorice.” Six months later, Nicola Formichetti-styled video is finally here, and it is awesome. It might have something to do with the fact that famed fashion photog Rankin directed it.

The cowboy-themed vid was shot in Paris but appears to take place in the American Southwest. It opens with Banks, clad in an American flag-printed halter bralet and hotpants, her mile-long brown-to-blonde ombré weave whipping ever so softly in the wind.

We die.

The video continues with Banks participating in all sorts of Southwestern follies: horseback riding (presumably on the hunt for rich young white men as the song states), hot dog smushing, suggestive popsicle eating, gunslinging–the usual. Miss A-Z looks fabulous all the while in Alexander Wang, Jeremy Scott, Bernard Willhelm, and of course, Stetson.

We knew Formichetti and Banks would be a well-matched team, and “Liquorice” proves it. Azealia’s street swag coupled with Nicola’s quirky high fashion aesthetic is what makes this video so great. We’re accustomed to seeing Fromichetti’s styling in the context of Gaga‘s out-of-this world looks, but we’re thinking the toned down, cool girl aesthetic he created for this video is pretty freakin’ awesome. We’d like to see more, please!
